In this course, students read and analyze works of American literature from colonial to contemporary times, including poetry, short stories, novels, drama, and nonfiction. These goals will be accomplished through a variety of in-class activities, including literatures circles, culminating in a group project and presentation, and individual and independent projects which will include a writing component. These activities are designed to enhance their skills and apply the skills they have learned. We will apply grammar, usage, and mechanics skills mastered through various editing exercises. Students will continue to improve and develop their vocabulary through structured practice. Finally, students will take regular tests and quizzes as well as midterm and semester exams.
